Bergevin expressed his interest in Parise if he were to become available, to me it wreaks of tampering no?
Bergevin said that Parise is a "world-class player." "If he becomes free, we must look at this option."
CANES EXPECTED TO BE AGGRESSIVE
Earlier this week, Carolina Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford acknowledged his club will have the available cash to pursue a first line winger for Eric Staal's line, stoking speculation he’ll pursue New Jersey Devils left winger Zach Parise if he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Rutherford couldn't specify which player he has interest in, as doing so would violate the NHL's tampering rules, but Parise is the best available forward in this summer's UFA market so he’d be an obvious target.

Good question, I'm not sure, but it seems that Ron Wilson was dinged for the same thing a couple years ago saying the Leafs coveted the Sedins in June before they were re-signed. But what Bergevin said seems to be ok I guess, as he worded it "if he becomes free". I'm a bit confused.
